We are pleased to welcome Prof. Célio Dias Santos Júnior to the AI-Meat Lab at Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) as a Full Professor.
Originally from Brazil, Prof. Célio earned his Ph.D. from the Federal University of São Carlos in April 2019. He has extensive international research experience across Brazil, China, Portugal, and Spain. Before joining HZAU, he served as an independent researcher and Ph.D. supervisor at the Federal University of São Carlos.
Prof. Célio’s research focuses on the development and application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in microbiology and biotechnology, particularly for the discovery and prediction of natural antimicrobial compounds. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed research papers, including 11 as first or corresponding author, in leading international journals such as Cell, Microbiome, and Trends in Food Science & Technology.
At AI-Meat Lab, Prof. Célio will advance AI-driven discovery of antimicrobial peptides, microbial genomics, and interdisciplinary research connecting artificial intelligence, microbiology, and food science. His expertise will further strengthen the lab’s research capabilities and international collaborations in food quality, safety, and sustainable preservation technologies.
