Prof. Célio Dias Santos-Júnior from AI-Meat Lab at Huazhong Agricultural University was invited to deliver a keynote presentation at the Third Annual Meeting of the Microbiome Committee of the Chinese Society for Microbiology, held in Wuhan, China, from November 14 to 16, 2025. The conference, themed “One Health,” brought together researchers and experts to discuss emerging advances in microbiome science and its applications in health, agriculture, and related fields.
Prof. Santos-Júnior delivered an invited presentation entitled “From Annotation Noise to Antimicrobial Gold: AI’s Role in Revealing the Functional Reservoir of Microbial Peptides.” His talk explored how artificial intelligence can help overcome challenges associated with noisy or incomplete microbial genome annotations and uncover previously overlooked antimicrobial peptides. By integrating computational prediction with functional analysis, this research direction offers new opportunities to discover promising antimicrobial resources from the vast diversity of microbial genomes.
The presentation reflected Prof. Santos-Júnior’s research interests at the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and microbiology. At AI-Meat Lab, these interdisciplinary approaches contribute to the discovery of bioactive molecules and the development of innovative strategies for food quality, safety, and preservation.
The conference provided a valuable platform for exchanging ideas with researchers in microbiome science and exploring opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. Prof. Santos-Júnior’s invited presentation also highlighted the potential of AI-driven discovery to bridge computational biology and practical applications in food science and beyond.
AI-Meat Lab will continue to advance research integrating artificial intelligence, microbiology, and food science to discover novel bioactive resources and address emerging challenges in food quality and safety.
