Dr. Haizhou Wu has joined the College of Food Science and Technology at Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) as a Full Professor, bringing extensive international research experience in meat science, food chemistry, and sustainable food processing.
Dr. Wu received his Ph.D. in Food Science and Engineering from Nanjing Agricultural University, China, including joint doctoral training at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, USA. He subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher and researcher at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, from 2018 to 2023.
His research focuses on understanding lipid oxidation mechanisms in meat and developing innovative strategies to improve meat quality, extend shelf life, and promote the sustainable utilization of animal-derived food resources.
Dr. Wu has received several international honors, including the Young Scientist Award from the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST, 2022) and the Young Lipid Scientist Award from Euro Fed Lipid (2021). His research was also recognized by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) as one of its 100 innovations with the potential to shape the future in 2022.
At HZAU, Dr. Wu aims to establish an interdisciplinary research team integrating food science, advanced analytical technologies, and artificial intelligence to address emerging challenges in meat quality, safety, and sustainability.
